1. Our commitment to your data privacy for FASTag services
At State Bank of India (SBI), we are committed to ensuring the privacy and security of your personal information in accordance with applicable law in connection with our FASTag services.
This notice explains what Personally Identifiable Information (PII) we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it within the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) ecosystem.
By activating and using our FASTag, you consent to the collection, processing and dissemination of customer information including PII by SBI and other data practices described in this notice in connection with our FASTag services.
2. What information we collect
To provide you with a seamless and efficient toll payment service, we collect the following PII:
- Customer Identification Information: Name, address, mobile number, date of birth (DOB) and email address.
- Vehicle Information: Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) number, vehicle class, and images of the vehicle.
- KYC Documents: Identity proof and address proof, as mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
- Transaction Data: Details of toll plaza transactions, including location, time, and toll amount.
- Financial Information: Your linked bank account details for automated toll deductions and recharges.
3. How we collect your information
We collect your information through the following channels:
- Directly from you: When you fill out the FASTag application form, whether online via a customer portal or agent portal, or offline at a Point of Sale (POS) location.
- Through the NETC ecosystem: When your vehicle passes through a toll plaza, the system captures your FASTag ID and vehicle class.
- From Intermediaries: Through partners involved in the NETC program, such as the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL), National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and acquiring banks at toll plazas.
4. Why we collect and process your information
We use your PII to operate and improve the FASTag service for the following purposes:
- To process toll payments: Automatically deduct toll fees from your linked account as your vehicle passes through toll plazas.
- To verify your identity and vehicle: As part of the KYC (Know Your Customer) process, to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- To provide service alerts: Send you SMS alerts for toll deductions, low balance, and other account-related information.
- To enable recharge services: Allow you to top up your FASTag balance through online portals or the mobile app.
- To generate transaction reports: Provide you with statements of your toll transactions.
- To resolve disputes: Address any issues related to incorrect toll charges or transaction failures through the NETC dispute management system.
5. How we share your information
We share your information only with parties necessary for the functioning of the NETC program, including:
- National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI): As the clearing house for the NETC system, NPCI receives transaction requests to route them to the correct issuing bank.
- Acquiring Banks and Toll Plaza Operators: Information is shared to validate your FASTag and process the toll deduction.
- The Government of India and its agencies: In compliance with legal requirements, data may be shared with the Government Ministries and it's related agencies for purposes such as reporting, vehicle tracking, and enforcement.
- Service Providers: We may use other third-party vendors for ancillary services, but only under strict data protection and confidentiality agreements.
- Data Aggregation: Your data may be used in an anonymized and aggregated form for statistical analysis and system improvement.
6. Your data rights
You have the right to access and update the information associated with your FASTag. For any changes or queries regarding your PII, you can use the customer portal provided by State Bank of India (SBI) or approach authorised bank channels to update your KYC and profile details.
7. Security of your information
We implement high-level security measures to protect your PII, including encryption, firewalls, and restricted access. Our security policies are in compliance with regulatory standards and applicable law to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your data.
